Slosh AI Solutions - Detecting brain cancer early, saving lives

Undiagnosed, or late diagnosis of  brain cancer can be harrowing – for patients and their loved ones. From memory problems to difficulty carrying out routine tasks, if left unchecked, brain cancer can have destructive irreparable consequences for affected individuals.

Worldwide, the number of cancer patients and deaths due to the disease have been on the rise. Just in 2020, there were an estimated 19.3 million new cases, and 10 million cancer deaths. 1.6 percent of the new cases and 2.5 percent of the deaths were due to brain cancer (Bray, F., Ferlay, J., Soerjomataram, I., Siegel, R. L., Torre, L. A., & Jemal, A. (2018). Global cancer statistics 2018: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries. CA: a cancer journal for clinicians, 68(6), 394-424.).

The physical and emotional trauma associated with cancer is beyond words, not just for the patient but also for his loved ones.  Loss of a  near and dear one leaves unhealed wounds that last a lifetime. Similar to this is the story of Aiman Khan- the founder of Slosh AI Solutions.

A very close family member of Aiman started experiencing symptoms which were misdiagnosed initially. While family hoped that treatment would make things better, symptoms seemed to worsen. Further investigation revealed brain cancer to be the actual cause of symptoms. Unfortunately by then, it was already too late.

This incident changed Aiman’s life; amid her sorrow, she was determined to make a difference. She aimed to improve the diagnostic process so timely treatments could be possible and more lives could be saved.

Aiman started experimenting with tools to enable cancer diagnosis with greater accuracy. The main idea was early detection for a timely treatment and cure. After much trial and error, Aiman developed a working prototype, leveraging the power of Artificial Intelligence and Deep Learning through software and cloud based tools, that can identify brain tumors with high accuracy.

Aiman started Slosh AI Solutions on her own with limited resources. After getting incubated at the National Incubation Center, Aiman was able to build her own team of passionate researchers and developers and progress her raw idea towards a working prototype.

Currently, Slosh is seeking partnerships with local hospitals and doctors to gain access to larger datasets for increased accuracy of its model. Slosh AI Solutions is not meant to replace humans; rather it is a tool  meant to assist radiologists in making better decisions. Combined, AI and humans can bring diagnostic accuracy to well above 90% – the world that Slosh envisions.

This will require collaboration between entities like Slosh AI Solutions and hospitals as a concerted effort together can fast track progress and save lives. If you are aware of any radiologists, oncologists or hospitals near you working on Brain Cancer who would be interested in partnering up with Slosh AI Solutions for a pilot program, be sure to share this opportunity with them.
